About Us

The Betteshanger Social Welfare Scheme, home to many sporting and social activities in the Mill hill area can be found within the Betteshanger Sports and Social Club, The Welfare Ground, Cavell Square, Deal. CT14 9HN. We have a number of sporting and social sub-sections that come under the umbrella of the Betteshanger Social Welfare Scheme.

The Club was originally a Bowls Club, more commonly known as the BBC (Betteshanger Bowls Club). In 2000, the Welfare Scheme received a large grant from the National Lottery resulting in a massive redevelopment including a large function room, home to the Betteshanger Colliery Welfare Band, a 4 rink Indoor Bowls Centre, Cricket Pavilion, and changing room/shower facilities for the Cricket & Football.

Since the redevelopment, the Clubhouse now comprises two bars, two kitchens (one large commercial style), a large function room, members bar, games room and a smaller snug/TV room that doubles as a meeting/conference room.

Adjacent to the member's bar, there is a lovely patio area with picnic tables overlooking the beautifully maintained outdoor bowls green.

At the front of the building, we have 12 acres of field with large parking facilities. This area hosts our Football and Cricket sections all of which have junior sides. Furthermore, we host a doggy training school run by Envie Canine on Wednesday and Thursday daytime.

The Clubhouse has the latest full fibre and offers fast free WiFi, two 75-inch TV, two large projector screens, one electronic where main sporting events are shown as well as a pool table and darts facilities. Card games are now played after Bingo on a Monday evening as well as Sunday lunchtime Euchre being the in-game of the season!

We host Quiz nights on a Wednesday evening, always on the second Wednesday of the month.

The Club's Social Section has weekly live bands every Saturday evening in the member's bar, commencing at 20:30 - 23:00. Well-behaved children are welcome to attend but are not allowed to play on the dance floor.
